Environmental Model for Outdoor Scene Analysis

چکیده

In the field of outdoor scene analysis [1], well known procedure to analyze an image is as follows: (1) The image is divided into regions mainly based on color feature. (2) Each region is hypothesized as an object based on statistical knowledge between its characteristics and object labels. (3) The hypotheses are checked by knowledge of three dimensional relation among the objects. In theses steps, color feature takes an important role. However, the colors in the image depend much on the environment in which the image is taken. For example, the color of the sunlight at dawn is different from that in the daytime. In this report, we describe a method to generate an environmental model which could be useful not only in step (1) but also in step (2) of the outdoor scene analysis. There are several research concerned with color constancy [4, 5]. Based on the reflectance model [3], they tried to separate highlight from scattering light and to recover the intrinsic color of an object. For the purpose of understanding an image, however, we do not need to recover the intrinsic color of the object but to generate an object hypothesis. From this standpoint, we are attacking two problems; how to model outdoor environment and how to use the model for generating an object hypothesis. We are in the beginning of our research so this report is only concerned with the former problem.

Outdoor scene analysis using range data

1 . Introduction Outdoor scene analysis is a major Dart of an autonomous vehicle. It allows a vehicle to navigate safely through an unknown environment, to build a internal model Of me environment, and to identify landmarks. Several sources of data can be used to build such a vision system: range finders, color cameras. sonars. While a reliable system would probably use all of these Sensors, ou...

Text Detection in Indoor/Outdoor Scene Images

In this paper, we propose a novel methodology for text detection in indoor/outdoor scene images. The proposed methodology is based on an efficient binarization and enhancement technique followed by a suitable connected component analysis procedure. Image binarization successfully process indoor/ outdoor scene images having shadows, non-uniform illumination, low contrast and large signal-depende...

Model–Based 3D Scene Analysis from Stereoscopic Image Sequences

An approach for the modelling of complex 3D scenes like outdoor street views from a sequence of stereoscopic image pairs is presented. Starting with conventional stereoscopic correspondence analysis a 3D model scene with true 3D geometry is generated. Not only the scene geometry but also surface texture is stored within the model. 3D camera motion can be estimated directly from the image sequen...

Traffic Scene Analysis using Hierarchical Sparse Topical Coding

Analyzing motion patterns in traffic videos can be exploited directly to generate high-level descriptions of the video contents. Such descriptions may further be employed in different traffic applications such as traffic phase detection and abnormal event detection. One of the most recent and successful unsupervised methods for complex traffic scene analysis is based on topic models. In this pa...

All the Images of an Outdoor Scene

The appearance of an outdoor scene depends on a variety of factors such as viewing geometry, scene structure and reflectance (BRDF or BTF), illumination (sun, moon, stars, street lamps), atmospheric condition (clear air, fog, rain) and weathering (or aging) of materials. Over time, these factors change, altering the way a scene appears. A large set of images is required to study the entire vari...
